In fact, with the budget airline is calling for a ban on how much booze passengers can buy before boarding their flights to clamp down on alcohol-fuelled disorder on flights, holidaymakers are facing more scrutiny than ever.
Too much booze and you could find staff refusing to let you board the flight - leaving your holiday ruined before it's even started.
However, Brits don't need to scrap their pre-holiday pints altogether. In fact, there are plenty of tips and hacks to help you pace yourself if you are going to be drinking during your flight.
Hilary Marsh, the creator of Botonique , shares some of her top tips below:
- Don't start too early Some party-goers start drinking as early as on the way to the airport, but when you combine this with drinks at the airport bar, and then a tipple in-flight, it can leave you more drunken than planned!
- Take advantage of complementary snacks When offered salty complimentary snacks such as peanuts or mini-pretzels – take them! This is because they are covered in salt, a key ingredient lost when drinking alcohol. These snacks will also help to absorb some of the alcohol and the replenishing of the salt will lead you to feeling fresher for when you land.
- Eat before you travel We all know the cliché saying of never drink on an empty stomach - but it's a cliché for a reason.
- Order spritzers Whether you're ordering from the drinks cart or drinking your own alcohol, sticking to mixers can be a great way to pace yourself. Plus, it will help your booze last longer too.
- Stay hydrated It’s a well known fact that alcohol dehydrates the body, but it may be less well known that flying can also lead to dehydration, mainly due to the lack of humidity in the cabin air.
- Consider non-alcoholic alternatives If you don't want to go big too quickly but don't fancy sitting there with a bottle of water, then why not try mocktails? Not only will you save on the sky-high airport prices, but you won't be left with a hangover on the first day of your trip.
- Know your limits You know what you can handle when you're out drinking, so keep on top of your limits, don't overdo it before boarding the plane and you can still have a fun start to your break.
Instead, try saving yourself for the flight, or at least the airport where you can start with a pre-holiday pint.
Ensure you drink plenty of water, tea or coffee to keep hydrated - and avoid a horrendous hangover the next morning.
